Do you reuse antifreeze...

In a conversation with a friend, I learned that another friend [ a man ], reuses his RV antifreeze from year to year. In the Fall he blows out the water lines with air, and then pumps antifreeze through the system.

Then when Spring comes, he blows out the lines and puts the antifreeze, back into the gallon containers!!!!

Am I missing something, or is this a safe procedure????

That's a good question. I use new stuff every year. I simply wouldn't want to chance the anti-freeze getting old and losing its effectiveness. Not worth it in my opinion.

Antifreeze is cheap in comparison so why risk it in my opinion! I would think though as long as he tests it every time before putting it in that it would be ok. Just more hassle than it's worth though.

I think what he does works because he blows the lines out first. The pink stuff does not handle dilution well at all. (It's not like car antifreeze where the effective temperature just changes with dilution.) If it gets diluted much at all, it's no good. (That's why I question people who poor a little into their traps thinking it's going to stop them from freezing. It won't.)

This is bringing cheapskate to a whole new level. You go out and spend 20, 30, 100 thousand on a RV and then worry about spending 4 bucks on a gallon of antifreeze. Holy macaroni.....

I save all the old stuff and use it for the drains. I always use new stuff for the lines. It is cheap insurance. I don't need any issues with water.

I know my friend is strangely frugal...what can I say....he's a man, but every once in a while he does come up with a good idea.

Frugal ... Yes, but there's a difference between scratching your a** and tearing it to bits.
