X2. This is the only method that works for us as well. I tried adjusting the rotation of the valve mechanism, but after three uses had to return to the slam shut methed--only problem is that the slamming noise can wake up the neighborhood. 😲

I don't know first hand if this works, but I know someone who swears by it: Thetford Toilet Seal Lube & Conditioner. They say to pour about 4 oz. in and let it set for 8 hours. It's supposed to penetrate and swell the seal to make it work again.
