Toilet Odor

We have the same problem with our Rockwood 2604WS. So far, I have not been able to solve the problem or has anyone from Rockwood or Dometic bothered to respond. The smell in our unit is most prevalent when the air is on or the fan is on in the bathroom. We even get it around our sink. Let me know if you find a solution. I will do the same.

I would say if you have the smell around anything other than the toilet, you may have a black and grey tank issue. The older Dometic 300 has specific issues for which they claim has been resolved. I snapped a picture of the sticker on the toilet and forwarded it to Diane. She sent me a replacement the next day.

Glad you took the time to read through the thread. Lots of great information in here. When you get the new 300 it will take you about 10 minutes to replace it.

Joy and I took delivery on a new 2014 Rockwood 8315BSS late last fall and we were only able to camp in it twice before the end of the season.

We de-winterized and took a short trip last week in preparation for a 4 week trip in May. Unfortunately I discovered liquid seeping from the bottom of the Dometic 310 toilet. A little research on this amazing forum and I concluded that I was most likely experiencing the well-know Dometic separation issue between the ceramic bowl and the vinyl base. We are 200 miles from our selling dealer, so I decided to look at it myself.

When I removed the toilet from the floor it was immediately obvious that the toilet was defective. On the good advice of this forum i called Diane Staman at Dometic yesterday morning. She asked for the serial number of the toilet and offered to send a new unit by overnight delivery. As she promised, it arrived about an hour ago. I will install it tomorrow.

I can't heap enough praise on the invaluable resource that the users and moderators of this forum provide. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I also cannot say enough about the customer service provided by Dometic. It's unfortunate that they are experiencing so many problems with these toilets. Hopefully they will solve their manufacturing issues going forward.

Thanks again to everyone who contributes to this forum.

Sewer odor

I have a new 2014 FR Cardinal CAF3850RL that i have had for only 2 months and for the first time i left my camper for a weekend away and sealed up my unit and had left my automatic vent in operation. When i came home the vent was running and was pulling air from the bottom of the, not so well insulated under belly, covering and the entire home smelled of sewage. I am not sure where all this is coming from for i can not find any leaks. I have viewed several post about issues with the Dometic 300's. I have a Dometic 310 toilet of which i seem to never smell anything near it. Any suggestions? Do i need to pull my toilet?

Malvin65,
The problem with the 300 series is that "tainted" water gets between the plastic base and the ceramic bowl. If you stick your nose by this crack and smell a strong odor of sewage, that is your problem. In my case, I could stick my head in the bowl and it smelled clean, but I nearly passed out when I took a big sniff by that crack between the bowl and base.

Also possible is that you don't have any problems and your fan was drawing air through the black and grey tanks because everything else was closed up tight. Grey tanks can smell terrible, too.

Let us know what you come up with.

Sounds like your sewer tank separated somewhere underneath the Cardinal. The Dometic 310's were not subject to the same issue as the 300's. Check the under belly and I would bet the sewer line either separated or the tank cracked and there is sewage in your basement.

FWIW, my original toilet was a 310. Dometic replaced it almost without question. I haven't had any odor problems since the toilet was replaced.

Wow. I had thought the 310's were bullet proof. Guess there was a bad run there for a while. Thanks for that info. Definitely helps out for future use.

We have a 310 in our 2015 Sabre and this weekend was the worst. We have odor so bad that you can't stand to be in the bathroom. I have an email out to Dometic to see what can be done.

I have the same foul odor issue in my 2014 Roo 233s. I just emailed Diane. It appears I'll need the serial #. Can someone tell me where this number is located? Is it on the toilet itself or in a manual?

A flashlight and a mirror will do the trick.

My serial number was directly under where the foot pedal attaches to the toilet. I stuck my cell phone in the tight space and snapped a picture of the serial number.
