Draining water heater question

If the trailer is full with clean water and the water heater is full of water, when I am done camping and dump the clean/gray water, will that drain the water heater also or does that need to be drained on its own?

You need to take the anode rod out of the water heater. (Assuming it is a Suburban) 1 1/16 socket.

If it is an Atwood, then you take out the plastic plug.

If you want to be sure all water is out of water heater, i would remove the anode from the outside after pulling the pressure release valve. On the other hand if your camping again soon, the water can stay in the heater.. assuming its not going to freeze

We leave water in ours all summer and drain in the winter. No it will not empty just by draining your tanks and turning off the water supply. To empty it, go to the outside access panel and remove the drain plug.
