External water filter or water filter inside TT???

Ok I have been thinking about this all winter and now spring is all most here. On my Rockwood TT the water filter is in the front storage area, not super easy to access I might add, anyway I am concerned about having the filter and water sit in the canister over the months not in use.

So I am wondering should I get in the storage area and unscrew the filter and drain the canister every time or would it be a better idea to just buy an external inline water filter?

Does anyone have any opinions on this concern? Ideas? Suggestions?

thanks
