I've participated in numerous forums before, but this one takes the cake. What a great group of people! I really appreciate the responses. I logged in hoping to see a response or two and was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of info posted.

I'll reply to everyone here, since so many have replied.

Thanks for the offers to contribute, I'll have to check if they have a paypal account.

Also, thanks for the compliments. It warms my heart that others feel the same way.

I do have a question. Can a 12 volt group 24 battery be purchased at automotive stores such as O'reilly's?

Many thanks...

Not to go cheap but Interstate has an "econo" line that I use for our used cars. They last about a year but I don't think the family you are helping will discharge it much.

Another question before I hit the sack. The furnace would not work until I hooked up a propane tank. It would just click on and off a few seconds before it turned off. Is there any way to run the heat off of AC voltage?

Hitting the sack now....thanks for any replies.

Not to be "a stick in the mud" but be forewarned that internet scams abound especially at this time of year.

While I am sure this is a worthy cause, use great caution.
I am also concerned as the OP is relatively new to the forum.

Just sayin'

Every mud puddle must have a stick in it...that's what helps us get across. Great advice.

Totally understand Herk, I would be cautious as well. Fortunately for the family, they are going to live right beside the son's mother and father who are very supportive. The young father is working, so income is there.

I've had offers to send contributions by paypal. I'll have to check if they have an account with them. Initially, I was thinking contributions could be sent to me if they don't, but I'm not really comfortable with that. All in all, I think they'll be just fine.

They'll be happy campers if I can get the water heater working today.
