I considered the plate, but went this way because:

a) The parts were readily available at the local hardware store, didn't have to order anything.
b) I can leave the canister off while it's winterized, less stress on the can since less times tightening/untightening it.
c) It's a backup bypass if the dreaded "My water filter leaked" issue ever comes up (though it still hasn't after 5 years of use).
d) I had the available room.

I like it,,, but don't think I would have the room !!!
