Fresh Water Tank Sanitizing

Hello Gang,

We have a new 3050s Sunseeker. Although we've used the Coach several times this year we have never used the Fresh Water Tank. We're planning a trip to Myrtle Beach in September so we're thinking of running with a half tank full of fresh water.

Should we or is there a need to Sanitize the Fresh Water Tank Prior to using? We have no intentioins of using the tank for drinking water. Primarily using it for the head while traveling to our destination and maybe wash a dish or two.

Let us know your thoughts ans as always thanks for the great advice.

I would. Unless you never use RV water for any cooking or drinking. I wouldn't want any contamination to get in my water system.

The intent of using the Frest Water Tank is for the head only while traveling to Myrtle Beach. No plans on cooking with the Frest Water Tank.

But with that said, it looks pretty simple to sanitize the tank so I'll do it the side of caution.

Thanks...

Remember, if there is some pathogen contaminating your tank, and you use tank water, now your whole system is contaminated. That is why I recommend sanitizing the tank.

Sanitizing Fresh water-------------

Sanitizing the fresh tank is simple. 1/4 cup of bleach, fill until full. Let set 12 hours, drain fresh water tank completely, refill untill full, flush all hot & cold water outlets, drain fresh water tank again, refill again, drain again.
This will get the bleach out of the tank by filling and draining twice after the bleach. Add 5-8 gallons of water (second light on tank gage) for flushing the john!!

I use bleach as well, but I use it a fair bit more liberally, 1 cup mixed with 1 gallon of water, then I fill the tank,
run all faucets until I can smell the bleach coming from each one,
then flush the entire system twice,
then install a new water filter
works well,
takes a full morning to do, but the comfort of knowing the water is good is worth it.

When you turn on the pump, it pressurizes the entire system, not just the toilet.
