We have a new Flagstaff 832IKBS. Our fresh water tank is showing about 1/3 full. We are currently hooked up to city water. My question is how long do we leave this water in the tank before it is unsafe to use? Also how do we condition the water for it to remain safe ?
depends on where the water came from and how it was treated.........
city water is generally chlorinated and treated so lasts longer....I have been to a couple of places and regardless of the supposed city system, I won't let dog drink it....
during cold weather I have left water in my tank for a month with no issues.....
Hot weather I won't let go more than couple of weeks.....
they make water re-fresheners you can find at most RV stores, wal-mart and few other places
there are some home remedies, ranging from the baking soda treatment to adding a ratio of bleach....
you could top off tank with fresh water....
my personal option is drain and refill if it has been setting for a while.....if I put water in, I try to keep tank full, unless I plan on draining ....seems if tank stays full dont get any odor issues....

Do a search online on purifying water. There is a lot of information. I just did a search a couple of weeks ago since I am going on a backpacking trip with my son and our scout troop. I bought liquid purifying drops to take along.
I do not know how long you can store water before it goes bad. I would imagine it depends on the conditions. If temps are high with a 1/3 full tank you have good conditions for bacteria to reproduce. I'm sure with the popularity of "prepping" you can find a lot of recommendations on shelf life.

For me, I always use a cheap inline filter from Walmart, dated and changed every year. I believe keeping the freshwater tank full will keep the water better longer.
I drain mine every month, if not being used, and then refill it; I use my camper as an emergency backup so I like to keeping it filled up even at home.
I flush the hot water heater tank twice a year and bleach the system once a year flushing multiple time to clear the bleach.

If we are going to be home for a week or two, I will drain ours and put fresh in before the next trip. When draining it, i will either let it drain onto the lawn if the lawn needs it or we capture it in 5 gal pails and use it on the flower beds,,,it doesnt get wasted.
