Friend's Eagle's toilet won't stop flushing

We just set up camp and our friend has a Jayco Eagle with a toilet that won't stop flushing. Only way to stop it is to turn off the pump. Is this an easy fix? Need a new toilet? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I posted this last night but don't think I posted it correctly so I am trying again. My friends and I are camping, but their toilet won't stop running unless they turn off the water pump. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Most likely a bad valve. They are easily replaced.

It would help to know what model toilet they have, but as AquaMan said it's probably the flush valve. Pretty easy to replace. In fact, it could have a piece of debris in it, so they may be able to remove and clean it out and get it working.

Makes sense to me. I went over to tell him and he had gone ahead and removed the whole toilet so we could take it to some dealers in Grand Rapids. Guess we are going on a road trip! Thanks for the input!

There might be something else going on. I'm going to assume this is a foot-operated toilet like is says on the Jayco Eagle website.

If it was just the valve continuing to admit water when the waste flap is closed, then the toilet would quickly overflow. Unlike home commodes that have no waste valve, unless the flap operated by the spring-loaded foot pedal gets out of the way, there's no way the excess water coming in is going to get out other than over the rim. So I'm presuming the waste valve isn't sealing tightly either.

If you have to replace the water valve (like I did last year when a bad winterizing job caused it to crack) they caution you not to remove anything at the flush pedal hub - presumably because you could mess up the return spring tension.

My money's on something to do with the return spring in the hub. The water valve is activated by a cam integral to the foot valve hub so if it doesn't come back up, its going to keep both valves open. Does it stop when you lift up the end of the foot valve with your toe? If so, it should stay up on its own because the water valve actuator should provide enough pressure on the low end of the cam to keep gravity from pulling it back down.

If you replace the toilet valve, install a 90º shut off valve. That way, when the valve fails again, you'll be able to shut off the water to just the toilet.

That is a really good idea! Love it! I will be sure to pass it on to my friend and may also do it myself. Update: I gave him all your. Info. We drove an hour away to visit a Camping World and RV General. He took the toilet with him. He bought a part. Came home, replaced part, still didn't work. Next thing I know he is going back to the dealer (hour away) and returned with a brand new toilet! Got tired of messing with it. Installed it and it works fine. Problem solved (Well, sorta).

His new toilet had an attachment we had never seen on a toilet. A hand held sprayer on a second hose. After the usual jokes on why it was there we decided it is for spraying toilet residue down the drain the normal flushing doesn't get. Great idea! To use, flush like you normally do but use the sprayer at the same time. Sprayer doesn't work unless you are flushing. Our own toilet happens to be next to the shower so we can just use it to rinse as needed. I like this idea🤓

Those hand sprayers work really well and don't use a lot of water.
