Gravity feed water fill needs pressure?

On our Forest River Hyperlite there are 2 water fill ports. One says 'city water' the other says 'fresh water'. According to the rv manual the 'fresh water' port is supposed to be gravity fill. But it won't. There is a threaded connector for both ports, both ports will fill with hose from house water source. But the 'fresh water' port will not take any water from a water bottle---held high up above the port or not. There is a small screen filter just inside the connection. How do I get this to gravity fill like our last several trailers. We want to 'dry camp' with it.

We used to take 3 Walmart water jugs and then fill them at the campground water spout and then pour them into the water take via the outside fill port.

Husband very frustrated. This 'fresh water connection' does not look to have a 'vent hole' anywhere near it. Like you see on other fresh water fill connections.

Not sure on the Hyperlite, but my Sierra has the antifreeze line at my water control panel. There's also a faucet for the sprayer. Put your water pump into sucking antifreeze mode, drop the hose into your portable tank, connect the faucet to the fresh connection and open the faucet with the pump on. That will suck the water in and pump it into the fresh tank.

Also, many folks have an external pump to do the same thing directly. I'm choosing to work with what I have, but either way works.
