Also here is a thought. If you are VERY CAREFUL you
could try pulling the handle on the pop off valve on
the water heater. Wear rubber gloves and stand back but
what I'm suggesting is to get some water out of there and
see if it really is luke warm. If it's uncomfortably hot as
I suspect it will be, then you have a bypass valve set
1/2 way or all the way in the wrong position.
Let it cycle on until it's "hot" and then shut off gas and
electric before you try this!!
You don't say what make or model of HW heater you have
but I believe they now come with 120 degree preset
thermostats. You can order one that's 10 or 20 degrees
hotter from the factory or some well stocked parts
places.
