The check valve in the water pump likely has a piece of debris caught in it causing the city water to back flow into the tank.
Also, some models have a valve that allows you to fill the fresh water tank while connected to city water. It could be leaking or positioned incorrectly.
As search of forum on this particular problem will bring up tons of threads about this very subject.
Please include specifics about your unit when posting so we can better help you with problems.

Could you provide a little more info, on your Wildcat control panel where you hook up the city water hose is there a valve to change from city to fresh water, or are there two separate connections. My Silverback only has one connection I'm not familiar with the new Wildcats. This may help to pinpoint your problem and find a solution.

Ravn53 think you are correct sounds like a bad check valve between the city and fresh water system. You might try turning off the city and running the pump for the fresh water tank it might free it up if it's stuck or clogged with something. If not sounds like a warranty repair.

This usually solves the problem, although it could happen again. It's not necessarily a flaw in your system, but just something that happens every once in a while. It can happen to any of us. If it happens on a regular basis, then get it checked out. A pump is an easy thing to replace and or take apart and clean.

X's 2 it has happened to me a couple of times just ran the pump by itself and it reset or cleaned the diaphane valve that lets it by pass. Pretty common problem if you have the city running and turn the pump on at the same time by mistake....

Water pump issues
Now my water pump is only working if disconnected from city water. But before the pump froze, it was working both ways. Anyone know what this might be?

help overflowing holding tank
Nothing wrong, as long as the city water is over the set pump pressure usually 40 psi it will not run. Occasionally when at a park the water pressure will drop so low that the pump will run to bring the system pressure back up.
We don't turn our pump on when connected to the city supply, but we always keep at least 1/2 tank of fresh water. We have been in parks and the water got shut off, so we always have a supply for at least a day

X2 - the line is pressurized so the pump (which runs only on demand) won't run. It should be turned off when on city water.
