Help! Sheared off sewage pipes

Stupid newbie mistake: ripped off the black and grey water drain pipes backing it into the driveway for the first time.

I'm going to try to fix this myself. I've had a little experience repairing pvc for underground sprinklers, so I know just enough to be dangerous.

Can anyone advise me on how to approach this?

O U C H!

Larger one looks easy enough, upper one looks like it will need a new fitting and perhaps some pipe work.

I would approach that job on my creeper.

I would also look at some way of installing a skid plate.

Yeah, it's a PITA for sure. Went over a curb. Is this regular PVC that I can get from the Home Depot? How do I get the connections I want to reuse apart?

Yes you can get the stuff you need at Lowes or HD.

Dremel with a cutoff wheel and or grinding stones set speed to a lower setting so as to not melt the plastic.

I would remove as much as possible to keep it from getting in or on the drain valve.

With out knowing what it is for sure I would take a bit of it and see what breaks it down.

Brake cleaner, Goop off, or what ever will not harm the plastic.

I know you don't feel this way right now...but you are really lucky. Looks like you didn't break anything (especially the tanks!!!) and the tanks were empty. Mine weren't and I broke a bunch of ABS. Looks like plumber's putty. Clean it off with Goof-Off and reinsert the fittings and tighten them down. The black is clearly a simple hose clamp to the tank, can't see the grey. I bet FR did it that way so that you aren't faced with replacing a tank or two.

Either way, consider yourself luck that you don't have 40 gallons of black tank contents spilling out on the driveway.

It looks like the factory ran out of glue and used Dicor or putty tape and a pipe clamp on the black tank inlet? Thats good for OP, the fitting just popped out.
Clean the stringy stuff with mineral spirits. The gray tank fitting look like the will just clean up with sand paper to remove old glue. Buy pvc primer and glue and glue it all back together if nothing is cracked.

It IS NOT PVC. The drain lines are ABS. PVC glues and primers don't work on them. When you do use ABS glue make sure everything is where you want it, once the glue is applied and you shove it together there is no moving it.

Use ABS cement and the next time the OP will be replacing the tank! Nothing wrong with plumbers putty...it won't break the tank...and the bank when he fixes it. That ain't Dicor.

Thanks for correcting me, and to the plumbers putty guy, never seen plumbers putty string up like that... still looks like dicor.

No I would NOT use ABS cement on the large pipe, just clean the goop up and put it back together with fresh sealant. On all of my RV's over the years when I had to repair the ABS lines I used No-Hub fittings between the tank and the lines. Made things a lot easier the next time something needed fixing.

Might be butyl sealant. We used that in metal roofing systems and that is about what it looks like. Stickiest stuff known to man, as long as you keep it out of the sun. Exposed to sunlight it will dry up and turn chalky in a matter of days.

Ok, I removed the drain pipes to reassess the situation. It looks like I can just reapply whatever the sealant is (any recommendations?) to the black water pipe, shove it back in, and tighten the clamp.

Oh, and the sealant feels just like old chewing gum. Have no idea what it is.

The problem is going to be the grey water pipe. Don't know of you can see it in this photo, but the end broke off in the 90-elbow it connected to. I've somehow got to figure out a way to replace this piece and the elbow, both of which are still glued to other pieces which I would like to salvage if possible.

Looks pretty tough to do that. You may have to go get new abs at HomeDepot and go all the way back to the hose clamp and similar sealant.

Man, that's what I was afraid of. Oh well, guess I'll be more careful from here on out

For the smaller pipe, get a rubber coupler that has 2 hose clamps.
