Hot water

Hi all.
In our new Legend and loving it. But one question just how hot should the hot water be? To me it's scolding hot. I don't see an adjustment.
Thanks

I've posted this before, and I'm assuming you have a Suburban WH:
In case you aren't aware, you have two thermostats; one for the 120VAC electric element and a 12VDC one for the gas.

I've found the Suburban part numbers below.

The first 2 are what you should have as standard. The next two are the hotter ones. I could only find one lower one; I THINK 120VAC.

Standard
232306, 130 deg, 120VAC
232282, 130 deg, 12VDC

Higher
232319, 140 deg, 12VDC
232317, 140 deg, 120VAC

Lower
520788, 120 deg, 120VAC??
Since it's too hot, another option for you is to crack open the WH bypass valve just a little. This will mix a little cold water with the hot water.

Thank you so much. That's a great idea to open the bypass valve a little. I'll give it a try this weekend.

You could install a tempering/mixing valve kit. There are many designs to choose from, but I have included a link to one that is pretty basic and inexpensive. This is a starting point for your research:

The tempering valve is a good idea.

Kind of odd. Generally over 130 is considered dangerous especially with kids. My system sort of aides getting scalded as it takes a long time to get the temps up. Need patience.

Changing the device(thermistor ?)controlling the temp might be easier.

I would bet mine is 120 degrees. Hotter on gas than electricity.

The higher the temperature, the more cold you add and therefore the longer the hot water will last. Most of us only have 6 gals to work with.

Apparently kids aren't a concern.

A Fun, Yet Important, Fact

One thing I do at almost every residential plumbing service call I do is measure my customers’ hot water temperature. Usually the reason I am there has nothing to do with their hot water temperature, but extremely hot water does cause a lot of premature failures of various plumbing parts — especially those where the part contains rubber and is subjected to extremely hot water.

I check the hot water temperature mainly to advise my customers on the dangers of scalding. People are almost always surprised to learn how just a few degrees can make such a huge difference in safe or dangerous hot water.

Below, I have attached a picture of a sticker that is on almost every water heater I install. After seeing it, you might understand why I stress to my customers that their water heater should not be producing water hotter than 120 degrees.
