Hot water

Hello everyone, first time out in the recent purchase of my forest river salem lite 19T, started the hot water heater, fired up with no problem, took the anode rod out and cleaned it before we came, turned on hot water, of course there was a ton of air in the lines, but it finally cleared up yesterday, but water is warm when you first start it, but only for about 5 seconds, then it turns cold again, I can let it run strait for 20 minutes, and the flame will come on and warm up the water again, and I can pull relief valve on tank, and it is hot, but it won't come out any of faucets hot, anyone have any ideas?? Thanks guys !!!

I would check your shut off valves near the hot water heater. Im guessing most have 3 shutoffs and the one in the middle maybe set wrong allowing the hot water to blend with unheated water.

Looks like normal mode its in. Handle normally indicates direction of flow. In pic supply on left is sent to tank inlet on right. If is pointing vert than it goes from supply to hw oulet, ie: bypass. Easy way though, heat it up and check both positions!

I am gonna guess he turned the water heater on with little or no water inside.

Heater element may be fried.

No, still having same problem, I know enough to be sure there is water in the hot water tank
Before starting the pilot light and turning it on, hot water at the tank, it's just not traveling thru all the lines for some reason.

Has ther EVER been hot water? soind to mr like a plumbing problem, so find the closest hot water spigot to the tank, and if that is warm there may be misrouted plumbing. or if this has just happened it might be a control board or thermal sensor that is signaling the burner/heating element to shut of.

One thing to try carefully is heat the water to shut off and then turn off the HW heater, release the pressure in the lines (pump off and no water pressure), and then with gloves carefully unscrew the anode, and see if THAT water is hot. If it is it most certainly is the bypass or something else in the water lines, if it is only warm, it is the water heater. Be carefull and don't get scalded. make sure all pressure is off, and ALL the power and gas is shut off. AND then be real careful... and even more careful.

davel3083 - Did you check your valves at the tank? Cold in, the hot out open and the bypass closed? Check the bypass valve to make sure that the handle position and valve position make sense (don't assume)...

Another possibility- at the hot outlet, there sould be a non return valve. Prevents water backflow into heater, completes design of 3 way valve.

check and see if u have both hot and cold valves open (at one of the faucets) and shut off at the shower head. an external shower can do this.
