hot water, both faucets
2008 Surveyor SV 234
Connected to campsite water
Every time I turn on the cold water at either faucet (kitchen or bathroom), I get a couple of seconds of not-quite-scalding water. Then the water cools down to the expected temp.
I thought it might just be due to the 100 degree temps yesterday, but this morning its a "cool" 80 degrees. And the same thing is happening.
It didn't happen the when we had the trailer out about 3 weeks ago.
Any thoughts?

Hot water on both sides!
What a shock you get, I bet.  HUUUUMMMMM, check your bypass valve at the hotwater tank to see if it is closed? If it is open just a little, you may get hot water on the cold side.

Our trailer does it as well. I just chalked it up to the cold water and hot water lines being too close together somewhere or the colde is too close to the water heater.

As said above the hot water heater bypass valve is open and feeding hot water back into the cold water line.

No way that much heat can be tranferred to another plastic pipe. Most locations they have lots of space between them. Does this happen in all your sinks or just one? Is it possible the bypass valve is bad and open all the time?
Can you feel the heated water at the lines going into and out of the heater as well as the bypass valve?

Geeze,
As always seem to over think stuff. We have been camping in 90 to 100 degree temps this last 10 days, in all likelyhood the hot water is coming from the hose laying on the ground outside soaking the beautiful North and South Dakota sun in. Tip thanks to DW's sisters hubby.

Well, I'm not sure what really happened, but I thought I would update you anyway.
I was still having the same problem on my next outing...and it was much cooler outside. I turned the water heater on bypass and determined that it was working. I left it like that for a few hours and had no hot water coming from either tap. I returned the valves to their previous settings to allow the wife and kids hot water again. The problem has not returned.
Although I checked for this multiple times, I can only guess that it had something to do with the bypass valve not closing all the way for some reason.
