And the question is, or are you just stating a fact?

They are around 9" long, can be purchased at Lowes/HD and require a 1-1/16" socket, 3" or 6" extension and a breaker bar to remove, Teflon tape to wrap the threads to re-install the new one. Make sure you release the pressure with the pop off valve at the top. Stand to one side as the water will probably be hot. Also MAKE SURE you turn the Elec switch off on the heater and the propane switch inside. Best thing to do is just unplug the shore power and turn off the water heater switch inside.

cbauch, what brand/model water heater do you have in your trailer? These park model RV's "can" have larger water heaters than a regular RV/TT.

If so, yours may be a little different than the norm. I copied this from the Forest River Spec page on the Villa Estate:

Villa Estate Comfort
and Convenience
  • 102″ exterior width for increased living space
  • Frost proof garden hose spigot (off door side)
  • Black framed tinted glass windows
  • WaterPur™ whole house water filtration system
  • Water heater by-pass
  • Wired and braced for second A/C
  • Pleated night shades
  • 20-gallon electric water heater
  • Ducted Dometic® 15,000 BTU central
air conditioner w/ quick cool feature
  • In-floor ducted heat w/ 40K BTU furnace
  • Shaw® stain resistant carpet w/ padding
  • Flush-floor hydraulic slide rooms w/ manual override
  • Systems monitor panel
  • 50 amp electrical service and 65 amp 12V converter
  • Solid hardwood drawer fronts
  • NEW IVC plank wood linoleum
But there is an option for a 10 gallon water heater:

Villa Estate Popular Options

  • Gelcoat fiberglass exterior
  • Skylight over tub
  • Garden tub with glass door (per floorplan)
  • La-Z-Boy® living room furniture (a Forest River exclusive)
  • Air hide-a-bed sofa
  • Detachable hitch
  • Outside shower
  • 10-gallon gas/electric DSI water heater
(in place of 20 gal electric)
  • La-Z-Boy recliners
  • La-Z-Boy sofa w/hide-a-bed (Must choose suede décor)
If you have the 20 gallon water heater, I don't think that Suburban makes one that large, so you may have a different brand, that requires different parts. That's why it would help, if you can state the brand/model water heater you have.

Cbauch, are you positive you even have an anode rod in your water heater.

As I asked earlier, it's impossible to give accurate information if we don't know EXACTLY what water heater you have.

You may even have an Atwood brand, that has an aluminum tank that doesn't require or use anode rods.

Can you let us know what make/model water heater you have currently installed in your trailer?

The aluminum just reacts slower, and may not offer the same faster protection as the magnesium

Question, removed ours when we winterized. My father in law saw it & said we don't needs it, he cuts them off & replaces plug. He is a retired plumber up north. We store our 5th wheel at the beach in sc so I feel like it's needed. I'm a girl & have leaned to do all on my own & by reading on this site.

IMO, something is corroding the anode rod. If it wasn't there, what else would be corroded instead? I'd thank the FIL for the advice but continue using it if it were me.
