If you have a multi-meter, you can check the heating element. If shows essentially zero ohm resistance, replace it.

Yes and it really speeds up hot water recovery time.

We usually turn the gas off once heated and leave just the electric on till shower time. Kick the gas back on for showers and we can all get thru (Usually 4 of us) with minimal wait time.

I thought I'd provide an update to the issues a few weeks back.

We are currently camping for the long weekend. All systems go!

Once the parts arrived and I carved out some time, I ended up replacing the gas switch located on the control panel - that was a quick fix.

I then ended up replacing the electric switch outside.

Everything else checked out ok - the heating element and everything else looked fine, and tested fine.

I guess the switch outside just fried, and the switch inside had a short as I was able to get that to work previously.

So far so good.

Glad to hear it's resolved. Also glad to learn about the dual heating trick. 😃
