Hot water heater issue - help please!!!
We arrived at the campsite yesterday and went about our standard setup.
I made sure that the hot water heater storage was full by running water inside the RV as well as hit the release overflow on the hw heater itself for a second or so.
I had normal flow so I turned on the gas hot water heater switch to the Suburban hot water heater outside.
A bit later as I washed my hands we had hot water.
This morning, no go. No hot water.
I have plenty of propane, so not sure what the problem could be. ***edit - running only electric, not gas***
I go outside to troubleshoot and I can't turn the switch off!!!!
What is this telling me? Bad switch or something, or did the thermostat fail? I tried to hit the reset buttons on the hw heater outside, but don't know if that did anything.
Any tips on what to do?
I've got the electric ***edit - gas is going, not electric*** going now to see if the water will heat but I guess that will take more time.
Thanks for your help.

My reset went bad and had to be replaced for it to work. Left for electric and right for gas.

How hard to you have to press the reset button? It doesn't appear my reset buttons move at all.
Not to mention I can't turn off the hw heater outside. That switch doesn't move!

Just a touch will do it. Not a push button like you would think.

Thanks. I guess I can press them (both) but it doesn't allow me to turn off the flip switch.

If your switch outside is Stuck ON and you were plugged into Elec. and your Inside Breaker is On,you should have Elect.heated water! Unless you plugged in BEFORE the Heater was full of Water! Only takes a Second to Burn out! Now your Gas side should have stayed ON untill You turned it OFF! You might have Several Issues! Youroo!!

Flip switch? Are talking about the on/off switch for a suburban WH? There may be a small clip through the switch preventing you from turning it on electric. Look very close to see it.

I plugged in shore power, then the fresh water line, went inside the Roo and ran cold and hot water for a few seconds then went outside and released the pressure release valve. Seemed I had a full hw tank of water - then turned the switch on.
Now that the switch won't turn off, I'm not sure what I can do!
I also don't seem to have hw from electric so somehow either the switch is bad or the heating element did fry some how.

You plugged in electric first then hooked up water. If tank wasn't full of water, then yes you did fry element. Did that myself.

The outside switch is for electric element inside switch is for gas. Doesn't sound like you turned on gas side!

I thought I had a full hot water heater before I turned on the outside switch for electric.
I ran water in the bathroom and kitchen, then went outside and checked at pressure release BEFORE I turned on switch to electric hot water outside. I've done this every time.
I had zero air and waited a bit before I hit the on switch outside.
This morning, when I realized that I didn't have hot water I did press the inside gas switch - but I'm still not receiving hot water.
Also I can not turn off the outside electric switch now. Stuck in the ON position.
I'm at a loss! I'm guessing the heating element did fry or the switch is bad.

Sorry you got it backwards. Added a lot of confusion. It may be fried on the elec. side , but gas should work unless reset went bad at the same time.

Yeah, correct. I turned them around in my brain...puzzled.
I only ran electric up until this morning when I flipped the switch inside to see if gas will work.
It hasn't so far, so I think the heating element is fried. I don't know how it happened though.
Doesn't explain why I can't turn off the electric switch outside though.

Easy enough to change. Been there/done that. Like I said, gas should work, just takes a little time. You can run both at the same time. Great at shower time. Faster recovery!

Thanks for the help but if the heating element is fried, gas can still heat the water?
That doesn't appear to be working right now.

Behind the black rubber boots on the over temp switches are snap discs. One is for electric and one for gas. If they trip, when they are pressed you will feel them snap back on. If you pushed them and they did not move, they were most likely not tripped. As mentioned above the outside WH switch has hole through it that allows a pin to be inserted, but I believe it can only be inserted in the off position to prevent accidentally turning it on. Worth a check anyway.

If the switch will not move I believe that you had a short that may have melted the inside of the switch in to the on position. If the short is in the wrong place then your gas will also not work. For the record I understood what you were saying from the first post. I just now came on line.
