Hot water out of cold side

I have a new Sabre 30RLT and I’m getting hot water out of every cold water valve in the camper. It’s just for a short time then the water turns cold. You would think it would be the other way around.

Is this normal, something I should be worried about or just an aggravation?

Depending on where you are, and the ambient temperature outside, it is fairly normal. All of the water lines are Pex (plastic) and with warm air temperatures, it doesn't take too long for the water in those lines - and in your hose - to warm up. If you are getting cold water after a few minutes (either from your fresh-water tank or from a "city water" spigot), you are OK. Don't worry about it.

Check you WH winterization valve see photo. The center valve in the photo should be perpendicular to the crossover piece. Also check the outside shower. The faucets can be on with the shower head stop engaged and you will not have water flow.

OP says he gets water flow, but that it is warm coming out of the cold faucets. But after a while it gets cold as it is supposed to be.

BTW, Bob, why are all of the valves in your picture open? If the w/h is in use, the by-pass should be closed. If winterized, the "cold in" and "hot out" valves should be closed. (Just bustin' your chops)

If I were going to take a guess, because I have seen this, its simply the water source. I use a 25 foot hose from the water source to the city water inlet. I have been at campgrounds where all 25 feet of hose are in the sun, meaning the water in that hose is probably 100+ degrees before it enters the camper. So whether you turn on a cold water valve, or a hot water valve at your sink (or even flush the toilet), the first 20 seconds is going to "hot". Then it gets cold...

Only photo of WH on this machine. That's why I added note. OR maybe just wanted to show him how it would look if it was wrong.

There was someone on the forum that had a similar issue. In his case, his outdoor shower was the culprit. He had both valves turned on to the shower head but had the shower head turned off so this resulted in flow from the hot to the cold side at the valve since they were both open.

Edit: I see FlyBob already mentioned this.

Also if the bypass center valve is open with the upper and lower valve open you will get both temp. Of water. The center valve needs to be closed for the hot water to work

If your cold line runs right next to your hot line for a stretch, it's possible that it will pick up radiated heat from the hot water line. You can try to seperate and/or insulate the 2 if possible.

Sun on the hose sounds very plausible. That is easy to check by waiting until dark, letting the outside hose cool off and then turning on the water. When it runs cold, shut it off for a while then turn it on again and see if it runs warm again. If it does, it's something else.

An easy check for that is early in the morning. If your cold runs hot for a period of time first thing in the morning when the water in the hose hasn't been heated all afternoon, you probably have something else to investigate. The quirks of RVing.

Had same issue. Was a bad bypass valve on a 2017 RV.

I had that problem too, only it was in the toilet on a new 2005 Coachmen Motorcoach I bought. Must of been built on a Friday cause they plumbed the hot water to the toilet. Never would have known if I hadn’t seen steam coming out when I was running to fill black tank to flush tank in winter time. Thankfully an easy fix though.
