Angry Hot water tank trips high limit

Has anyone experienced this problem? If I use LP gas to heat my water my high limit trips every time and must be reset. If I use it in electric mode it functions perfectly. The dealer says that the units in a Georgetown MH don't have an adjustment for the water heater temperature. I find this hard to believe, especially since it works well on electricity.

Very possible that the high limit switch is bad.
Electric probably doesn't get water hot enough to trip it.

thanks f11ooturbo. Possible, however the water is far too hot, scalding hot on gas.

So that tells me the set temp switch would be bad. And the heater is heating up to high side cut out.
bad thermostat?

I agree this sounds like a defective thermostat/hi limit switch.

You don't mention maker or model of your water heater.
If you have a suburban, there is a rubber cover you can remove
and find your thermostat's and hi limit's look similar to this--
http://s664.photobucket.com/albums/v...t=IMG_0417.jpg
One side controls LP and the other side is the 120v AC electric.

The thermostat and hi limit are built together as one replaceable unit.
They aren't that expensive and are pretty easy to change.
You can get them online or at most any well stocked RV parts counter.
They come in 2 preset temps.
130 deg and 140. Most folks go with the 140 because the heater is
so small you can get a little more time out of a shower if the water is
hotter.

Cost about $30 for either the LP 12v side or the electric 120v side.

Good luck!
