Beware of the back pressure valve under sink. The first time I use the black water flush, valve closed blew this valve and flooded the inside of the trailer. Actually there was a few bugs caught in the valve so it would not close.

My valve was leaking from day one,,,,,,I replaced it with a better one that doesn't leak now.

Like many said, I put roughly four gallons in, three full toilets worth of water and on the fourth I add my chemical. That way I fill up the pipe with water, my chemicals go into the tank and I'm pretty sure there's a layer of water on the tank to help with solids that might be resting there.

There's nothing wrong with putting lots of water in there. Like I said also,,,,,lots of water is the black tank's best friend.

If you plan on leaving any water in either the black or gray tanks in an area that freezes, be sure you have added lots of antifreeze. Any water remaining will fill the drain pipes ( to the dump valves) and freeze and crack them.

That's true, Flybob,,,,,but we have tank heaters that prevent that unless we get into really really cold climates....which we don't frequent anyways.

One capful of Calogon water softner and one half cup of power laundry detergent and 2 to 3 gallons of water into an empty black tank.
