Leaking around toilet

We just de-winterized our trailer and checked everywhere for leaks. We bought this trailer in January and we were not able to test the plumbing system until now. We found that there is a leak behind the toilet only when it's flushed. The leak seems to be around the area where the Phillips head screw and the black part is. I'm not sure what that part is for. The area behind the toilet is so tight, I'm afraid I'll have to take up the toilet to find out where the leak is and how to fix it. Can anyone help?

Vacuum breaker was a known problem at that time & causes leaking only when flushed. If you bought it from a dealer you might want to challenge him to make it right. Otherwise buy a new vacuum breaker & hire a contortionist to wiggle behind the toilet to do the replacement.

Easy to do, just 2 bolts and the water supply line to remove.

Water line should be hand tight and 2 bolts hold it to the floor. Also, there is just a rubber gasket, not a wax ring like you'd have on a home toilet so nothing to replace. We had a similar issue and its a lot easier to work on outside. I'd also hose it up outside and test everything before you put it back In the camper.

Thanks for the help. Does it sound like its the vacuum breaker or could something else be causing problems like this? Is there any way to know for sure its the vacuum breaker by looking at it or would I just have to buy the part and re-install the toilet to see if that fixes it? Where would I buy one?

I would just take it out and inspect it. Might just be some debris is causing the leak or something simple.

We had the same problem. We unscrewed the plastic cap, put plumbers tape on it, refastened it and didn't have the leak anymore.

What plastic cap? This is our first TT so everything is all new to us.

I've taken the toilet off my floor several times. It's easier than the house toilet and lighter to boot..

It's a cap that you can unscrew on the top end of the blue hose shown in your picture. Supposedly the plastic fittings should be able to be tightened enough so that there won't be leaks. However that doesn't always work. You might want to try this before you start removing toilets. It won't hurt anything and it might save you a step. Good luck.

Just for a quick update... we purchased a new vacuum breaker and installed it and now no more leaks! It was very easy to do. Now we are almost ready for our first camping trip the end of the month

I have a 2006 Wildcat and it leaked the first time I took it out I took back about 4 times and decided to repair myself I replaced the flush Valve. I had to remove the Foam sealer around the hose and loosened the hose nut pulled hose down and removed the two Philip screws to replace the flush valve. After replacing it I resealed and have never had a problem since and that's been since 2006
