Leaking water heater replacement

Hello.

1st time poster here and new member also. Looking for some instructional guidance.

Seems I neglected my water heater over the years and now it leaks from the cold water connection when I pressurize my system. Those user manuals are of some use it seems, albeit to late for me. Expensive lesson about to be learned.

I'm guessing I'll have to replace the unit and in preparation for doing that, I've disconnected the electrical and propane and now am ready. Before I go and start removing every fastener I can get a screwdriver on, can someone let me know if all the ones on the outside of my trailer have to be removed. I'm not a fan of pulling fasteners out and putting them back in the same holes, as they never hold as well in a used hole.

We own a 2010 Surveyor, SV-294 and the water heater model is a Suburban SW6DE.

Any help provided is greatly appreciated.

Mark

I did my WH and just a little dab of silicone on the screws before installing and have never had a problem.

Did you pull the cold water connection off and see if its the gasket/fitting?

If I remember correctly, these use a common wedge shaped fitting that common in household faucets. The gasket/fitting can develop a groove in them and this is where they leak.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

Thanks for the encouraging words cpaulsen. Did you have to remove all 14 screws to get the old one out? I have 11 that attach the outside ring to the trailer wall and 3 special ones that are 4+ inches long and attach this ring to the tank itself. Those 3 have a large glob of silicone on them, to keep waste gases out of the trailer I'm guessing.

To remove the water heater from an RV.
Drain all water and remove hot and cold lines from inside RV
Turn off your lp at the tank and disconnect the gas line on lower left outside.
Turn of circuit breaker to WH and disconnect 120ac line if appropriate.
Remove screws for exterior door and set door aside.
Remove all screws around the perimeter on outside.
Lightly pry water heater loose from side wall.
Slip WH partially out and disconnect the 12 v wires to WH.
Reverse procedure to install. Be sure to test LP fitting for leak at finish.
