Look what came out of my gray water tank
We bought our 2011 Rockwood Roo last year and the past few times we've tried to dump the gray water tank, it would drain very slowly. We thought maybe the handle came apart from the slide that allows the tank to drain. I took it apart last weekend and was astonished at what I found. This is shredded plastic and couldn't of gotten in there thru the sinks or tub. Anyone have an ideas?? Leftover from the mold at the factory?? Finally dislodged after all these years?? Crazy!!!!

That is from when they drilled the holes into the tank; looks like the shavings from a hole saw.

I believe it is a normal part of assembling the tanks. They drill a hole and the plastic falls into the tank and either floats around or is drained. I had a pretty big chunk of plastic come out my tank. Normally you wouldn't notice because it would go into camp ground septic tank. I noticed mine when it was new I used the sink and other drains and dumped it on the ground. Clean water "only". That is how I noticed the plastic.

Most gray tanks I know about and have seen have a smaller drain tube on the gray than the black tank. That limits the size of stuff that gets easily drained. Since there is suppose to be nothing bigger than a kernel of corn in the gray tank it's not an issue having a smaller drain pipe. I did read somewhere on this message forum of a guy who do a mod to his gray tank to make the drain as big as the black tank. Wanted a quicker drain and get away.

Good point Evereddie. Wondering why they'd leave those fairly large pieces of plastic in there?? Grey tank tube is pretty small and I had to pull that mess out with needle nose pliers. I think in my case they left way too much and there was no way it was coming out on it's own.

Just too lazy to fish it out. People have had the entire plastic disk cut out by the hole saw blocking up the drain too. If the disk falls off the hole saw before it comes back out it seems sometimes they just look the other way.

Suck it out with a high powered shop vac?? I'm sure they drill a lot of holes: the sink, the tub, the vents, etc Most manufacturers don't leave the shavings just laying where they fall though. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal except it caused us a lot of hassle when we couldn't drain our grey water. Then when we got home, it did drain so we thought we were good. Next trip same thing so it was really annoying.

Have any of you retrieved one of the 3" disks left behind? I saw one floating around in my black tank, chased it around for a while with a modified marshmallow fork to no avail... Gave up, but I would like to get it out of there before it plugs up the drain pipe. Any suggestions???

TL474 Maybe one of those long grabber arms if you can find one with a small enough claw?? Try it with an empty tank if you can see it or a tank full of water.

I saw this in my black tank and made a wire hook. Poked it through the pilot hole in the center and got it out that way... not fun.  Once I got it up there it wouldn't come through the toilet opening easily. I was afraid I was going to do more damage than I wanted to fix. So I had to get a pair of pliers and some snips, and cut one side off. Yes, I dropped it a couple of times... Yep... I was cussin' FR that day. Not sure how many times I washed my hands that evening... but the tan on my hands didn't match my arms...
