Looking for a Sewer Hookup Solution

For the next month we are leaving our 5ver at a campground about 30 miles from our house so we can just run out in the car whenever we want. I have a 2006 Rockwood 8280SS with the dual grey tanks. Usually I dump the black then, the grey bathroom tanks and then after closing the slide out I change the hose to the galley tank to drain it. This works OK on weekend trips. Leaving the 5ver setup for this long I don't want to have to run the slide in every time I need to dump the galley tank and I don't really want to crawl under it to open it. I did some searching and saw where some people use a "Y" connector and another hose and just leave the galley valve open. I have also seen some that use a garden hose connected to sewer elbow and leave the galley valve open. My galley cap has the fitting for a garden hose on it so the option to use a garden hose is there. So on to the questions. If I leave the galley valve open won't odor from the sewer seep back into the galley tank and vent up through the sink? I know there is a trap but, if the water evaporates from it over say a week we would walk into a stinky camper. Is there a sewer connection with the garden hose fitting already built in or is a homemade solution? Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

You could also form 1 or 2 traps with the hose from the galley tank.

Thanks, I didn't even think about doing something like that. Any idea where I can get a 90 degree sewer connector with the garden hose fitting? I use the Rhinoflex 15" kit and store the hose in my rear bumper so modding it with a garden hose fitting would not work for me.

I try to leave the valves closed as long as possible, but one time the galley tank filled up while my DW was doing the dishes in the indoor kitchen, and the grey water backed up into the outdoor sink and came into bunkhouse.

As to the galley trap drying out and allowing sewer gasses to enter the unit, fill the trap with RV antifreeze - I don't think it will evaporate in the time frame you are talking about. You could also put a cutoff in the drain hose.

For me, the easy way to do it would be to just block the drains with a stopper or a rag and let the tank vents do their job.

Low spots

Just make a few low spots in the garden hose. This well cause the low spots to hold water.

the smell will not go back into the rv because of the trap . I have the same problem I put a dump extension on mine so I can pull the valve without crawling around but I plan to extend the galley drain out to get it next to the bathroom drains.

You could hook up a Y kit and run two large hoses to if need be
