Lost Water Heater Cover

We are on a 4 day trip, when we arrived at our site we noticed the water heater cover is missing. Since we can run the heater on electric i covered the hole with a plastic trash bag.

Heavy rain is expected on Thursday and we are heading home Friday, possibly on the rain. My plastic cover should hold while parked but what should i do to protect the heater while traveling? I have ordered a new cover but it wont be here for 2 weeks.

If you are in a metro area look for a Walmart, Staples, Office Max some place like that, that has the hard corrugated sign material it is cheap and lite weight. I would tape it on the exterior molding with a good tape. Should get you home.

I'm not really sure it matters if it gets wet? The cover is 50% holes so I'm sure it gets wet anyway.. Others will chime in.

If you are in north Atlanta you might try Three-Way Campers in Marietta on Cobb Parkway (US Hwy 41), they may have a replacement door in stock. Or CW in Woodstock about 20 miles north of I-75 just off I-575.

We lost ours in a wind storm in Kansas. Traveled for over 2 weeks without it and nothing on it with no problems. Just turn the the gas switch off when traveling. The water will stay hot if you start out with it hot.

This is my opinion, also.

Put the new cover on, i had to change the frame too, the replacement cover has a hinge, not just pegs to stick the cover in. I would not have had the tools or screws needed at the campsite.
