Yep. Definitely getting hot water on gas. I'm checking it in the bathroom sink, which is the closest source from the heater. I'm wondering if when the element burned out, if it took the little thermostat device with it.
In my many years of owning and working on R/Vs, I've never heard of a water heater thermostat going bad by losing its calibration. It is simply a temperature sensitive on/off switch. They either worked or they didn't. They don't regulate voltage in any way other than on/off.
I won't say never cause you never know but unless the thermostat jarred loose (not touching the side of the tank) I can't imagine the calibration changed. (non-adjustable)
I suppose the thing to do is check voltage through the system right to the element.
Let us know whether the element is getting voltage when the water isn't hot enough.
Here's a schematic of a Suburban... pretty simple actually...

I checked for voltage at the element, before I changed it. There was good voltage, then. I will check it again, to see if that's changed.
I'm not understanding where the air could be coming from? Is it possible that the tank is cracked, somewhere, but not in a place that would leak water?
