Magnesium or aluminum anode rod?

Is one better than the other and why for a Suburban water heater?

Use magnesium if you can. If the magnesium won't last a year go with aluminum.

It came with a magnesium one when new and I changed it to a aluminum one last spring as that is all the store had. The aluminum one appeared to have flakes coming off it. A couple weeks ago. So I flushed the tank and lines and installed a magnesium rod.
Was just wondering if anyone had any opinion on them.

aluminum can cause health issues I would go with magnesium, even if I needed to buy 10 in a season.
