I did a quick search and it appears you do have to jump through FR's hoops but you can order them on-line as opposed to calling
https://forestriver.wildmanstorefron...px?zpid=439616
Of course this make me think maybe I should start looking for a external water filter with easier to find filters......hmmm. I know I have seen some people that use them on this site instead of the stock filters.

Sure you can, just take the filter out and use a external type filter that hooks to your hose. They also have a plate that go's into the top so the container will not fill up but you really do not need that. You will probably get better water pressure to boot. If you are handy you could just take it out and by-pass it with some fitting. You can get them at any hardware store. You might even have enough hose already as sloppy as they run them that you would only need an insert between the 2 with a couple of hose clamps.

My question is, if I get an inline [water hose] water filter that I have used before, could I just leave the onboard canister empty [no filter], and use the water system that way.

We have a different model but can only buy replacement filter from FR or WaterPur. I plan on using an external filter and just leave the inboard canister empty. Maybe we will remove it if not to hard a job for the unmechanically inclined.

I bought two of the filters. Replaced the dirty one, saved the other for a spare and then when I use the spare I can order at my leisure before that one is dirty.

What is was trying to avoid, was having to pay $29.95 + $9.10 shipping.....when I can get an inline filter that goes on my hose, for $20 from Camping World.
I always bring my drinking water from home, so I don't feel I need a high end water filter, for the water that I use...to just go down the drain!!! But thanks for you suggestion.

I would just remove the factory filter and replace it with one from Home Depot or Lowes.
Forgot....
Get one with a high flow rate.

In my opinion which means nothing (just ask my wife) I would not call that I upper end water filter. You are right it is a ripp off. Just do as you plan that is the best idea.......

You DO have another option - just remove the cartridge and don't do anything else. Most of us have RV'd for years without filter units. I'm not convinced they're really necessary.

The cleaner the water the cleaner your tanks and pipes will stay.
Sand and sediment in the water lines and tanks is not a wanted side effect of well water.

My house has well water. I've lived in it for 33 years. Don't really have sand or sediment problems.

Cool, but I doubt everyone who has a well can say the same thing.
And I doubt very much that a camp ground host would be able to tell someone the history of the on site well.
You will have to forgive me for not wanting some "stuff" in my tanks and lines.

My other two campers I had didn't have a filter .My new one does but I see no use for it bc we carry drinking and cooking water. All we use the water for is to shower and the toilet. So when I go to replace it I will just leave it out. Just like when I winterize it.

You can also buy the inline hose filters at Wally World and get 2 for the price of one at Camping World.
