Need help - noisy water pump

We have a 2018 Coachman Adrenaline toy hauler that has been exasperating us since before we could take possession. One problem we could really use advice on is the water pump. It makes a lot of noise regardless of how long we run it. Sometimes it spews as if it had air in it but even after running it dry then refilling the tank and slowly getting the water through the pipes again it just starts huffing and puffing again. It's so loud it's disturbing to our neighbors and worrisome to us. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Techs tell us it shouldn't be doing that and we should just run the water a while to let the air out. Dah!!!

Sounds like you may have a bad pump.
We lined the space where the pump is with some Dyna Matt. Covered the cabinet walks and the floor under the pump Also used 1/2" pipe insulation on both hot and cold water lines coming of the pump and water heater.

It shouldn't be doing that, but running the water to let the air out shouldn't 'take a while'. Those water lines are pretty small and it doesn't take that long.
Sounds like you've got a bad pump or somehow water is getting into the lines. Since it's a 2018, it should be under warranty.

Check the pump strainer, make sure it's tight, even add some Teflon tape on the treads see if that will help, your sucking air somewhere. Will it hold pressure when it shuts off? Does it come back on for a sec when not in use? All signs of air.

After you get the air in the lines problem solved you can further reduce water pump noise.

We found most of the noise from the water pump in our RV came from water lines around the pump vibrating against compartment panels.

We mounted the pump itself on a rubber pad, then anywhere a line touched or went through a panel, we affixed pipe insulation.

It was amazing the difference in noise level.

Good luck!

On the pump input is a two-position selector valve. One position selects the fresh water tank. The other one selects a short piece of flexible tubing which is used to draw RV antifreeze (not automotive antifreeze) into the plumbing for winter storage.

Make sure the valve is all the way towards the fresh water selection, not in-between.

One additional idea to go along with the good info already provided. If you can find a spot to put it, adding a pressure tank to the system will reduce the number of times the pump cycles on. For us, we can often make a few bathroom visits. Nice not to have the pump start during the night. I don't thing the Shurflo tank which holds about a quart of water is worth it. I used one of these which is listed as a 2 gallon unit: https://www.menards.com/main/plumbin...9357932&ipos=9

Will check that. It tends to spew and sputter the whole time we are using the faucet as if it's got air in it. Does seem to hold pressure though and it never comes on when not in use.

I wrote earlier to check that the winterization valve was FULLY in the operational position, not halfway between winterization and operation.

What did you find?

Thank you all for all this great information! We are currently driving cross country so limited on tools and place/time to do much with it. Nothing but driving and spending the night at a campground for a couple of days. We are planning on taking it to Camping World first thing Saturday morning if only to get a "diagnosis". Now I know exactly what to make sure they look at and get answers for. You guys rock!!! Here's a pic from Yellowstone to brighten your day. Sorry it's uploaded wonky. :P
