does your Water heater still work on Electric? if not its possible that you burned out the heating element by having the electric on with an empty tank

The first line of the original post says "It works great on electric."

yes, but its worth asking.. Just because it worked great once on electric, it doesn't preclude that it doesn't work anymore on electric

You asked for a sequence. Try this. If you are plugged into shorepower, turn the switch on the wh to "off"
Open propane tank valve
Turn switch inside rv labeled Water Heater to on positionWater heater should start within a short time
As someone posted, you should hear a clicking sound from the heater as it tries to ignite.

Be sure you have the water running so that new cold water is going into the tank if it is already warm. Because until it cools down the gas will not come on. Also, on everyone I'm familiar with, the suburban water heater gas switch has a red light on it. I think that red light only stays lit until the igniter successfully lights the burner. Then the red light goes off and the water gets hot and stays.

If water in heater is warm from the elect nothing will happen when you torn on gas heat switch. Turn elect sw in water heater compartment off. Either run out all the hot water or wait till it cools off and then turn on gas switch. Most likely heater will light.

If you will look in the FAQ forum section, we have a very detailed thread on operating a suburban water heater called suburbans electric switch and much more.

I'm on a mobile phone right now or would get you the link. It may help you.

Edit, here you go.

Are there any updates to this problem in the last 4-5 days?
