Newbie with FW tank questions.

Hello , I'm a total newbie to the RV thing. Always camped in tents. My first question is , do I need to add some kind of chemical to the FW tank each time I fill it ? (Such as sanitary tablets , etc.) And what about the "city" hookups , do I add anything there or will a inline filter do? Thanks.

We put a couple cups of bleach in at the beginning of the season. We then fill the tank with water and let it sit for a day. Flush it out and the fill it with clean water. The filter does the rest. We haven't used any additives.

Thanks Mr. Joe . Not only am I a newbie but the trailer is too. I read in the owners manual about flushing the tanks the first time but it didn't say anything about what to do after that. I just wanted to do what was necessary before I take it on its maiden voyage.

Treating of the fresh water isn't required whenever you fill it...just do the sanitizing once per year. Some empty the water heater between trips...if you choose that option, don't forget to have the electric WH switched off or you'll be learning how to change the electric element.

Thanks Dave . I hadn't thought about draining the hot water. Makes sense if it will be a while between trips.

Sanitizing the tank becomes simple. 1/4 c bleach per 15g of tank capacity. Fill tech with water and bleach, turn on pump and run water at each faucet and water source until you smell bleach. Then, let sit a few hours or overnight, then drain. Rinse with clean water and your good to go. If the bleach smell is too strong for you, keep rinsing.
