Noisy water pump

I'm new to RV'ing and am finding the water pump on my 2016 Coachman Freelander Class C to be annoyingly loud, especially if operating at night when everything is quiet. Mine is a Flojet. Do they make quieter pumps?

It may not be the pump but rather how its mounted, try putting a computer mouse pad under the pump (you have to unscrew it from the floor). If the inlet and outlet are hard piped you may consider changing to soft lines for the connections. Let the forum know what you do and how it works also do a search in the search box on the upper right for noisy water pump. good luck

Yes, they do if you want to fork over $$$$. But a lot of noise is caused by the water lines attached to the pump.

Usually you can quiet your pump significantly by padding the water hoses where they touch walls to stop them from vibrating against them and making noise during pump use. I also put a rubber pad under my pump to lessen the echo where it was mounted.

Can hardly hear it now. Good luck!

X2 on what NMWildcat sez ... the pump itself is pretty darn quiet, all the noise seems to come from where the plumbing interfaces (touches.)

Too bad the manufacturers don't put an extra loop in the first run of output hose, that would buffer a lot of the noise right there. Planning on doing just that when we install the pressure tank soon.

We don't see water but they said maybe air that makes it ri to pressurize it? I'm glad they are replacing since it's been a headache since day 1. The check valve also doesn't seal. When we hook up to city water it slowly fills our fresh tank till we see it come out underneath through overflow. We turn the water off turn on pump and run our tank water into toilet until it stops overflow and then turn city back on. Have to do this at every stop... sigh

Do you do a lot of dry camping? If so, then you can add an expansion tank with the pump so it doesn't run so frequently.

MY waterpump is fairly quiet BUT the plastic lines were laid in the backs of
cabinets and under the tub right against panels and walls and floors.
Those plastic lines jump up and down when the pump is running. They tapped-rattled-pounded against lots of things. Over time I have managed to
quiet most of them. Go get a cheap pool noodle. The cheap smaller diameter
ones are best for this.
Cut it into short sections and then slit the sections down one side. Slip them
over your plastic lines where ever those are touching ANYTHING.
It's a pit of a hassle but the results were stunning!

While you're in the area, check that any fittings around the pump are tight.
I found automotive screw clamps loose on 2 previous rigs. One blew off right
at the pump but luckily we were home and shut it off pretty quickly.

Good Luck!

KyDan - that is a good idea for the foam on the pipes... but it might be easier/cheaper to just use the foam insulation made for water pipes. Its already slit on one side and should be easier to put in since its fairly thin.

You could use the insulating pipes for copper pipes as a way to stop the rattling. This is what I am going to use and it .99 cents a strip so cheap enough for all the pipes.

We put a piece of foam under our pump and it helped a lot. Thanks for the tips about doing the water lines also, we will try that.

An old mouse pad will do, also.
