DH and I would have been willing to let it try to come out on its own or live permanently in there.
Knowing what I know about germs. I know a 10% bleach solution will kill all germs but I would not be able to wrap my head around using that spoon again. and yes, gloves would have been used if hand in toilet was necessary. I keep a box of gloves in the truck for all septic related things.

So if your arm woulda got stuck would she have posted a picture before calling for help? Must be an advantage to have long arms. Stupid question if I may. Wouldn't it have just went out when you dumped the tank?

DW wants to know whether or not this was a favorite piece from your Gorham Sterling silver set? Ours came from Walmart!

I can't stop laughing. Reminds me of a funny spoon joke. Hope it doesn't offend!
A guy is eating at a restaurant when the waiter comes over and asks if everything is ok. The man replies "Yes" but during the conversation he drops his spoon on the floor. The waiter immediately pulls a spoon out of his pocket. The man asks, "Why do you carry a spoon in your pocket?"
The waiter states that the place is so busy all the time that the employees need to save time any way they can so they did a survey and the most dropped eating utensil was the spoon, so now all the waiters carry spoons so they don't have to go to the kitchen to get one. The man thinks that's great.
Later on the waiter stops by again to see if everything is ok. This time the man notices a string hanging from the waiters zipper. The man asks the waiter what it's for and the waiter says, "When we go to the bathroom, we just grab the string and pull "it" out. That way we don't have to wash our hands, thus saving us time.
"Interesting", says the man, "but how do you put "it" back in your pants when you're done?" The waiter says, "I don't know about the other waiters, but I use the spoon."

I tried to dump the tank with the valve partially open so I could catch the spoon coming out, didn't work. I used a 20% bleach solution. Or maybe even 50%, who knows!

It was Wal-Mart special, but you don't understand. I have this anal retentive thing about COMPLETE SETS! If one spoon or one fork is missing, the whole set goes to charity and I have to buy a new set. Same with towels.

It seems to be upsetting everyone but you, so to make everyone feel better, just throw the whole set in the garbage and I'll donate $1 toward a fund to buy you a whole new set from Walmart.

OK! This takes the cake. I cannot stop laughing. Two questions; how did the spoon end up in the toilet - never mind - don't want to know. BUT why stick your hand down the toilet to get it. Leave it there! Take your chances! LOL

When I first read the posting thought it was an April fools joke. As far a glove go I keep a box of blue latex to wear when working around the sewer pipes. The gloves are thin enough you can feel items but strong enough not to rip. I can see why you would want to get the spoon out. It could get stuck at the outlet valve then you would have bigger problems.

Back in a more courtly, chivalrous age it was customary when a lady and a gentleman met for the first time that the lady would extend her right hand, palm down.
The gentleman would lightly grasp her hand by the fingers, bringing it up slightly as he bowed down and then proceed to kiss the back of the lady's hand.
I always wondered why such delightful, genteel customs fell out of favour...
