I laugh now, as I read this original post referred to as 'emptying my water tank' as though he was emptying his holding tank(s)...and could not FOR THE LIFE OF ME figure out WHO would ever come up with the idea or notion or assumption that any 'holding tank' would be somehow, or for some reason, lined with porcelain!!! Crazy!

You can filter the water but you cannot filter out the minerals.

One of the videos showed a procedure draining and flushing out the hot water tank, and went on to talk about filling the HW tank with vinegar to help dissolve the calcium build-up in the tank and on the electric heating elements.
My question is how do you fill the HW tank with 6-8 gallons of vinegar?? If you are using a fresh water hose to fill the storage tank AND the HW tank, how does one fill JUST the HW tank with vinegar?
Thanks for any responses,
Mark the Rookie

I suppose it could be done the same way you pump anti-freeze through your lines. Just leave the bypass valves open.

Which video did you see this in?

Pull the pressure relief valve or just pour some in the anode rod opening as the calcium build up is most prominent in the bottom of the tank. The heating element is easily removed for soaking if just wanting to get the calcium off of it.

Yes, the same way you add the pink stuff, except leave the bypass open. Also, I imagine you dilute the vinegar, not use it full strength, and you shouldn't need to fill the tank.
