Portable Dump Totes

I am interested in buying a 4 wheel portable dump tote to pull to the dump station with my TV.

I have read quite a bit about these and think the 4 wheel pneumatic tire version is best for me.

What I haven’t seen is how to store the thing when traveling. The thought of securing it on the TT bumper might work but I need the dimensions and that info is not easily available. I would rather not carry it in my TV or TT.

How do most of you carry a tote like this? Thanks!

Carry mine in the bed of the TV. It's the last thing loaded and sits, sort of, between the kayaks. Mine is a 2 wheeler, 26 gallon if I recall correctly. If I had it to do over I would have purchased a 4 wheeler model. Haven't yet come up with a good way to attach to the RV rear bumper.

We have a 30 Gal 4 wheel - Pneumatic tire. We store it in the bed of the TV between the 5th wheel hitch and tailgate. From 2/3 full = one tank per trip.

Why don’t they make some kind of bracket similar to the hide a spare for underneath?

If you want to store the tote on the back of your trailer, look at this post:

we have the 26 gallon two wheeled tote and as we have a hybrid camper - there is no ladder to hang the tote on and the spare tire is in the way for a bumper mount.....and we have an SUV as a tow vehicle - and there is no way the tote is going in the car.....
so we have to put it in the camper when we take it (we only need it for trips > 3 days with no sewer hookups - otherwise we don't take it). When we take it, it goes in the shower.

(i have seen some people put brackets under the camper and store it there - they may use a hide-a-spare system for it - am thinking about that for ours, have not done it yet as we really don't take the tote with us that often).

I am permanent. I have the 4 wheel 45 ga. Love it. Has a gate valve on the side. Neumatic tires. Grease fittings on the axels.

I probably should have mentioned that my TV is a van and I don’t really want the dump tote inside the van. Most likely I will buy the 4 wheel 42 gal. tote which could be too large to go inside the camper.

I also don’t have a ladder on the back of the TT. But I like the ladder mount and wonder if I could mount that right on the TT providing I can find the internal studs to mount it on. I would think the studs have to be there to mount a ladder which would be the same width to mount the tote support.

Can anyone tell me how to find the studs in the exterior wall? I have a 2014 Salem Cruise-Lite 241 QBXL.

Any other thoughts on this topic would be appreciated!

Many thanks!

I had a 2 wheeled 35 gal, after a few seasons I told the wife I was gonna hurt my back either pulling it in the grass or lifting it to connect to the hitch.

I then got a4 wheeled 35 gal version. No more lifting on the hitch but even harder to pull on the grass.

Third time is a charm. My 2 wheeled 18 gal works just fine now.

At 8lbs/gal that 42 gal tank will be a handful. I guess weight lifting 2x/ week isn't enough for me to move something like that. Either full or empty.

Pneumatic wheels should help on the grass though.

Can you share the brand and model? Also would like to know the weight of the tote when empty. I want to mount this on a ladder as someone recommended. Thanks.

Look at the Camco Rhino Tote Tank's. They are new so not a lot of information, or reviews on them, but they do look nice and have a ladder hook. 4 different sizes too!

Shalom Moshe,
I have the barker 22 gallon tote. Weight, empty is about 20 lbs ( just a guess.) I am very pleased with it. I got it at a yard sale for $10, but if you google barker tote at walmart, they have them for $ 128 which I think is a very fair price. Mine travels inside the shower, along with my water hoses in case I do leak it will leak right into the gray water tank through the shower drain

FYI -

Unmodified, my 42 gallon Barker 4 wheel tote weighs 47 pounds empty (the only way to store it!).

The 32 gallon tote is 37 pounds.

I can never get mine completely empty so maybe add 3-5 pounds for the leftover rinse water.

Thanks for posting about this new product. I had never heard of the Camco Rhino version of a tote tank. They’ve incorporated some interesting features but not having 4 pneumatic tires is a deal breaker for me since I tow my tote to the dump station. Having the front wheels makes pulling it to the truck a whole lot easier with a bad back!

I am curious - how does not having pneumatic tires on the tote rule out towing it to the dump station? I ask this out of genuine interest as I tow my 26 gal tote to the dump station with my tow vehicle all the time and it does not have pneumatic tires. Is it a weight issue with a larger tote?

Since our Micro Lite 25KS has a 30gal black tank, I bought the 42gal/4tire Barker tote, ... it is large but, I wanted one large enough, that I can hookup for the black tank dump and open the valve without having to worry about over flowing the tote, ... Barker does make a 32gal but that 2gal cushion just isn't enough if the tank isn't sitting level when dumping into it, ... the pics show the custom rack I made to carry the tank on the bumper, very pleased with how it turned out, ... but, I have recently returned my spare to the bumper and will be modifying the tank rack to hold the tank in the upright position to get them both on the rear bumper, ...

For me, it was strictly noise.

At the Sigsbee Key campground at Key West (most all sites are a plot of grass), the hundreds of campers dragging their hard plastic tire totes on the asphalt all day will drive you batty.

The soft tires are quiet and I did not want to add to the noise pollution.

The thing is that you'll need a tote tank more for gray water, than black water.
We've had our 15 gallon Barker for 12 years and NEVER needed to use it for black water and NEVER will.
So much focus on black water when gray water storage will almost always run out before black water storage.
