Tank rinser has a backflow valve(spring loaded) unles broken (Air/Fluid) can not return to outside. Pressure req.to open valve. Youroo!! Vent tube is (Below) liquid level!

It can if it's sucking from in the tank, it would be sucking air in not out.

Still say he needs to measure down to tank bottom and the vent tube from the roof as stated in post #3.

Vent fan may be on ?????

If your vent fan is on and you do not have a window slightly open the fan will draw air through your "JOHN" when flushed. The fan will pull air down through the tank vent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could just fill the black tank with water. Open the black dump valve and listen for the vent on the roof to start sucking air. If the vent in the tank is above liquid level, as I guess it should be if correctly installed, it should start sucking air immediately after opening the dump valve.

Same thing as sucking the water out of the sink traps when emptying the gray tank.

I bet his tank empties slowly too...

That's where I was going with the question about when the tank was last dumped.
