Put RV antifreeze in city water connection?
I just read a comment on another thread where someone mentioned putting the RV antifreeze into the city water connection when winterizing. That is the first time I have seen that mentioned. Should I do that when I winterize my Sunseeker?

I've owned 12 different RV's and have always done my own winterizing. I have never put anti-freeze in the fresh water connection and never had a issue.

I have an RV Antifreeze connection underneath the city water connection. Last year, I used an old hose that I was able to cut about 5' of length. Attached it to the antifreeze inlet, put the other end into the rv antifreeze bottle, turned on the water pump, and then you just turn on the faucets (one at a time), as well as flush the toilet, etc, and the pump did the rest

5 units and never have put antifreeze in the city water connection. Never an issue.
With that said, I always blow mine with compressed air so I'm confidant nothing is in the city water connection anyway.

If you use your RV pump to Winterize your unit it will Backfeed A/F into the City water fill! That is why you (Depress the Check valve at the City Hose Connection) to allow A/F to also discharge at this location! Youroo!!

I have never used my City water connection, which may explain why I have never heard of this. However, I blow mine out with air each year before I use the RV pump and factory anti-freeze pick-up to winterize the lines in my Windjammer. What is this check valve at the city water hose connection to which you refer?

I do my own winterizing and I might be paranoid but I put antifreeze in the city water connection, the black tank flush, and any where else I can think of. I do this after blowing out the lines. All this takes me an extra 15 minutes which to me is a good trade off for having a water line break somewhere where it is hard to get to.

not talking winterizing.....when you connect up to city water [say at a camp site], when you open kitchen or bathroom faucets, your pump doesn't start up right?...or does it?

NO. When connected to city water your pump switch should be off.

Vern,
If you look inside your city water connection (sometimes under a removable screen) there is a spring loaded check valve located inside there to keep the FW pump from back feeding water out the city water connection when not hooked up to city water. A small dowel or thin screwdriver could work to open the check valve.

If you remove the screen at the City water inlet the Check valve will be located there. If you depress it BEFORE you Open a output valve in your unit,You will NEVER forget it! The results are the same as removing the plug in your W/H while still Pressurized! Not all units are plumbed the same, some might drain away from the Check valve, some do NOT,therefore retaining WATER in the line, thus possible Freezing! That is why I recommend depressing the valve! Youroo!!

So the next picture in this thread will be of Vern covered in pink stuff... And prob a few choice hand signs...
Never would have thought to do the check valve. Guess I will add that to the list.

30 years of winterizing I have never used antifreeze in my water system. I hook up my air compressor and evacuate all water. drain and flush all holding tanks, fill all p traps with antifreeze and the only problem I ever had was when I forgot to remove my water filter it cracked due to residual moisture but no problem since I replace it twice a year anyway.

If you have a washing machine, don't forget to run it through a short cycle that uses both hot and cold water to winterize it. Takes an extra gallon of A/F, but worth the extra insurance.

One of the men at my Church did this, left the internal pump on, opened the city water input, removed the screen, pressed the valve in and, to quote him "faster than you could kiss a duck pink stuff came out over me and all over the neighbor's lawn!"
