Return to spec bw/gw holding tank system

I am new to the forum and new to RV camping. I recently bought a 2011 Rockwood HW 256 from a private owner. The 256 has a black and grey water system. The previous owner told me he modified the gray water drain by connecting it to the main black water sewer drain. Said it was easier for he and his wife to empty as they always hooked to a sewer outlet in the campground. I am preparing to use the camper for the first time and noticed significant modifications done to the system. I feel stupid asking this question but need help. Where is the black water holding tank located? There is a tank under the sink which is plumbed to a second tank near the center of the camper. The second tank is plumbed down a 1 1/2 inch pipe to the outlet. Both of these appear to be gw only. Does the toilet have a built in tank not visible from underneath?

The black tank is usually right under the toilet.

I recommend taking it to a shop that can "undo" that mod.

Without pictures it is hard to tell how extensive his butchery was. I see big things wrong with his "solution".

If you overfill the tanks you will get sewage in the camper. When you travel and slosh gray water out of the traps you will get sewage odor coming into the camper.

Was this unit on a permanent site? He must have never closed his valves and left the gray water to continually flush out the black.

My Sanibel comes that way from the factory... with the DRAINS connected together. Of course the dump valves are between the tanks and the point where they are joined. If the mod made it that way also, I see nothing wrong with it. 'Course if the valves are downstream of the junction, that would not be so good.

If the tanks are visible the black tank will have the larger diameter main drain coming off the tank itself.

Yea, I found that out just the other day working on the camper. The 3 inch dump valve is on the black tank only. Looks like a 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch valve on the gray tank.

They both dump into the same dump mast; but are not plumbed for the gray to go into the black tank.

Well if you really think about the physics there's larger stuff coming out of the black tank than the grey so it makes sense.
