Rockwood 2304 water heater popped!

We were trying to light the water heater, it clicked a few times and then popped real loud. It literally got so hot it melted the caulking around the water heater! Now the gas water heater does not work, but the electric does. My question is the electric water heater part of the thing ok to use all of the time. The camper is still in warranty, and I will get the heater fixed, but the electric works better in my opinion.

I use my electric portion of the water heater - have only tried the propane side to make sure it worked.

Just one thing though is make sure you turn the switch off on the water heater before disconnecting the water.

sounds like a mud dobber or something got into the water heater (gas side)
I put a screen on mine as soon as I brought the camper home so I ouldnt give mud dobbers a home

As long as you plan on only camping at electric sites, that plan will be fine. We figure if you're paying for an electric site, use electric on the fridge and Water heater. Why burn up your propane unnecessarily??? I would definitely get it repaired, while it is still in warranty, though. If it IS mud daubers or some other creature that stopped up the vent flue, they probably won't cover that on warranty, however. Good luck, Randy
