Rockwood Premier 2516 Bad Tasting City Water

Hey everyone,

Fairly new to the forums and I have owned my 2012 Rockwood Premier 2516G popup for about 3 months. We've taken it out on a few trips already and have literally no problems but one. Everytime we run the sink on city water it has a bad smell and taste to it. This last trip, over a 3 day, I had ran the sink on city water for about 2 hours and it seemed to be getting better. But later that same day, the bad taste/smell came back. It vaguely smelled like fruit loops the cereal. Not sure what's going on either. I haven't checked the water filter yet and to my knowledge the city water doesn't get anti-freeze put into the system during the winter. The problem happens when the water heater is on and off so I don't think that that's the problem. If you need anymore info ie, part numbers/pictures, let me know and I'll get them up. We're going again this weekend and I'd like to get some ideas of how to fix it before we leave so I can troubleshoot. Thanks!

Tony

You should be okay at least it doesn't smell like Captain Crunch! sorry couldn't let that one get by me. It's possible you are smelling what's left of winterizing anti freeze. Some brands smell different from others. I would just keep running good fresh through the system, it should get better soon.

First thing to do now is drain the hot water system. Then fill your FWT and add about a cup of bleach. turn on the pump to fill hot water tank and water running through all tap. Then let sit for a day then drain the whole system again and then flush with fresh water. Later RJD

I learned a quick trick this weekend, since we don't drink the water from the tap and only use it for washing dishes and showers.. It was suggested just filling the water filter canister with bleach and then run water from the city water connection through the hot and cold water .. Got rid of the funky smell in 5 minutes.. Quick and painless..

If trailer sits for awhile, it's always good idea to drain hot water heater.

Verify that your drinking water hose is manufactured/rated for "drinking water." Generally, that is always a white colored hose. Wal-Mart or any RV store sells the hose. IF you used a non-drinking water hose, i.e. a garden hose, etc. you have contaminated your water system with a chemical taste. Tastes horrible but will not harm you. If the latter hose was used, the best suggestion I have is decontaminate the taste with a heavy dose of bleach water. This may be required two-three times or more. In my "infancy years" of RV ownership, I used a gas station hose for convenience. Took about a year to neutralize the chemical taste! Good luck!
