I have never tried this, but heard about it. When Grey is full and Black is not, you leave the CAP on the dump fitting and open the Gray water valve. Then you open the Black valve. Water seeks its own level and both tank will become equal in their water level. Actually sounds like it would work bleeding the excess Gray water to the Black water tank, but I would never attempt it in reverse.

We also can fill up the grey tank in 2-3 days. So we put a better shower head in so it would turn off. And when we do dishes we wash in a dish pan and dump it in the toilet. Now we cann go longer between dumps.

We use the "navy shower" and typically can go 7 days on the 38 gal grey tank. The black is also 38 gal and it usually lasts 14 days or more.I'd invest in a tote before I would connect the tanks.Connecting them sounds like a good way to get something you dont want.As a c-dif survivor (two times) I dont use ANY public facilities and have my own dump station at home.

http://www.rvsani-con.com/order_online.htm

I have been transferring grey water to black tank for 10 years. After adding the Sani-con macerate transfer is easy. Also, when you empty the tanks just work the valves and flush the black tank with the grey tank water; finish pumping out the grey tank and store the Rv.
Probably one of the most practical modification you can add.

Make her dump the tanks and then she will take "navy" showers.

gashog, that is a horrible idea. How would you ever get the cap off to hook up the sewer line? between the cap and the valves in my unit there must be enough space for at least a gallon maybe close to 2. removing the cover with 2 gallons of waster water included - it will not be just grey water, not my idea of a fun time...

Would need to add a valve to the end for this. I just dump grey into a tote.. But if no dump nearby I use a 5 gallon bucket, dump in some grey water and then dump into the toilet. Do this as needed to equalize.

hankpac, interesting you mention the NAS Pensacola nomenclature for the Honey Wagon. I was never stationed there but am retired 20 yr Navy. The bid one works for us because we usually are in a state park type of setting where there is a dump station on the grounds somewhere. The big one has 4 wheels and a nice handle that makes it easy to pull by hand if on flat level ground, otherwise the handle drops over a ball on your receiver and off you go. I also installed a hitch on my golf cart specifically for this duty when we have the cart with us. I also found a tread somewhere on replacing the basic stock plastic wheel with small pneumatic ones so much easier to pull by hand and quieter on gravel surfaces throughout the campground. Did my conversion a few years ago. I see now in the catalogs you can upgrade to the pneumatic tires when buying new.
