RV plumbing pipes

Does the black pvc waste pipes under the sinks of my camper interchange with the white pvc that we use in our houses?

My "pop a vents" under my sinks went bad and I am finding that they are a pain to find and rather expensive to replace(considering what and how their made). I'm looking to redo the plumbing under the sink so I can replace it with a better vent that I can buy from a home improvement store.

Or does anybody have a good website where I could buy new ones for a relatively good price?

Thanks a million!!
Matt

is this what you are talking about "air admittance valve"?

That's what I'm talking about. The camper has a fixed 1 1/2" female and the admittance valve is 1 1/2" male. The ones I've seen at Home Depot say they are 1 1/2" but they are female if I remember correctly. I've checked menards too. That's why I had the thought of changing the plumbing to accept the valves that I can readily buy from Home Depot.
That leads me back to my original question, does the white pvc work with the black pvc?

There is no correct glue. The black pipe is ABS and the white pipe is PVC. There is no glue made to join the two together. The joining of the two must be mechanical -- threaded, rubber, etc., but no glue. I know this because I am a plumber and have been for over three decades. You can take my answer to the bank.

If you want to join a 1-1/2" female ABS fitting to a 1-1/2" PVC female fitting, put a short 1-1/2" galvanized nipple between the two.

All plumbing used in a RV is the same as you would use in your home. You can change the plumbing as needed.

I believe there is a transition glue you can use for abs to pvc. Click image for larger version

Ive never seen a female air admittance valve. What you are seeing at the store in the packaging is a female pipe adapter slid over the threads of the male air admittance valve. When you open the package, throw away the female adapter and thread the new male air admittance valve into the female adapter under your sink.

Show me who approves it for use other than ASTM. Which engineering entity and which plumbing code? It must conform to ASTM D-2564, I believe.

I'd like to use a studor or oatey. I can use a nipple under the kitchen sink fore sure. The vent under the vanity in the rear bath is tight. There's only a 1/2" from the top of the vent to the bottom of the countertop. Barely enough room to unscrew the vent and get it out. That's why I would like to cut that pipe down alittle but. Nomad, do you think that vent needs to be a certain distance higher than the trap to work properly?

Garmford, you can use Oatey all purpose glue and be fine. You do not need to use a mechanical joint. Can be found at any home store.

You're right Bruce, but the male threaded end is 2". If memory serves me correctly. I bought one while camping last year thinking it was going to be an easy fix. It didn't match up.

I'm a plumber had the damp problem. Took the vent out and threaded a cap in worked fine all summer. You will never have enough flow through the sink to cause any problems besides if you do thread it out. Best way to convert from abs to pvc is a rubber coupling.

Agree that was going to be my suggestion. Cut pipe down a bit use a Fernco to switch to PVC and install the admittance valve. 15 minute job.
