Sail Switch in Water Heater???

I read a post in another sub-section where someone mentioned checking the 'Sail Switch" in the water heater.

In 45 years of camping I have never heard (or seen) of such a thing on a water heater. Furnaces yes, water heater, no.

Is there something out there I'm unaware of or was this simply misinformation?

Here's what was suggested the OP do to check their WH operation....
I had a different thought if it's still not working. You said you hear the gas ignite, go for a few seconds, then go out? If so, check the sail switch and make sure it's not stuck or blocked. Once the burner lights, the exhaust fan starts to blow. If the sail switch doesn't sense air exhausting through the flue it will shut off the gas flow for safety

I believe they were talking about a heater. WH have no fans.

X2- RV water heaters have no blower so no need for a sail switch.

It is possible they are referring to an on-demand water heater. They are set-up much like a furnace.

In searching the All Mighty Google, there are in fact On Demand (tankless) water heaters with sail switches. Girard makes several models.

KenHwy61 is correct. I made that post. My Girard on demand heater does have an exhaust port and a sail switch, much like a furnace, and they do have a tendency to stick if a little dirt gets on the hinge points.
