Salem 19BH Water Heater

We just bought a 2010 Salem 19BH. I lit the water heater pilot light and then the water heater kicked in but only lasted about 15 seconds then kicked off, including the pilot light. Does anyone know why the pilot light would not stay on? I relit it three times but after firing up it would kick back off.

Thanks,
Mark

Check gas supply by lighting stove, furnace, or something. Did you turn the bottles on? Did you have them light the water heater when you picked up the trailer? Still under warranty, is it too far to go back to dealer? When you say you "lit the pilot light:, was that by operating the switch? Just some thoughts, hope it helps.

My atwood water heater in my other camper would do that if I didn't have water in the tank.

Did you do a thorough walk thru/inspection at the dealer
before you brought it home.
Did the water heater work then???
Is it full of water?
Is the LP gas on?
Have you read the owners manual for the water heater?

Since you only have a 6 gallon water heater, do you think it might be that it got up to it's pre-set temp limit, and then kicked off? I know mine cycles off and on as needed while I am using it, and in GAS mode, YES, the pilot cuts off as well. You have or should have a 2 way water heater. Does it operate in the other 2 modes- 12v battery power, and 110v ac? There is a switch underneath the outside cover with a cotter pin in it locked off- remove that and turn on for AC power, and the battery power has a switch on the wall that will illuminate red when on, and the gas is on, when it reaches oper. temp., it will cycle on and off, as required. Also, VERIFY by turning on the hot faucet at the bath sink that you have in fact water in the tank first, or you'll toast the element! Hope this helps you, and GOOD LUCK! Randy
