Screen filter froze and busted
Hi all
Dewinterizing for spring break and found the item below had frozen and busted. It is inline before the water pump and has a small screen inside. I need to order a new one but have no ideal what to search for. No names or part numbers on the item.

Mine did that a couple years ago. Now I remove it when I winterize. I think I searched Campingworlds website and then ordered it on Amazon!

Get the make and model number of your water pump and search for that pump and the inline filter

Out of curiosity- did you push anti-freeze into the system or just blow out the lines?

Blow out. Obviously not enough. We are in central Alabama. Blow out has been sufficient for the last two winters but not this year.

Problem is, this is in between the fresh water tank and the pump. I found that after you drain the tank to run the pump. This empties the line, filter and also half empties my water filter. Happened to me the first year. (2012) since I have been doing it this way, has not frozen. I DO not want anti freeze in my Fresh Water Tank!

Solution: Don't put anti freeze in your fresh water tank. Most suck it out of a bottle or bucket, right at the pump inlet.

Talking about the sediment filter before the water pump. Only way to keep from freezing is af in tank, take apart and dry out, or try the way I have been for the last 5 years. You can cut the line before the filter and put in a valve with a T fitting and line and suck AF that way, That's too much like work!

Pretty much standard and carried by most RV stores. Costs a few bucks.

As some other respondents said, that is actually a sediment filter, and as such, it should be mounted so that the bowl is hanging DOWN on the line so any type of sediment falls into it and stays there. I've seen pictures of it mounted sideways on water lines and wonder how much sediment just flows through then. When blowing out the lines water will stay in the bowl and then break the bowl if it freezes. It is also easy to forget to let shower lines hang down to drain and to blow out the toilet line (which I also neglected to do one fall.)
