Sewer Hose

How often do you replace the sewer hose ? Mine is about 4 years old and seems to be in good shape but I don't want to hold on to it too long and get a liquid surprise. Also what brand do you suggest for replacement?

Bought a Rhino at Walmart before our first outing.

Still looks good, I do keep it off the ground.

I have no idea when UV rays and stuff will dry it out to where it starts to crack or develop holes...

Yup... 'Rhino-Flex' all the way

-keep it off the ground (and as close to rig as possible)
-rinse it well before storage
-lube the 'O' seals with silicone lube (ease of use and long lasting)
- stow in a bin with no sharp objects...not just thrown into a pile

The cheaper you go for a 'slinky-stinky' the more often you will replace them. One crushing step from a size 12 on rocks and you will get your dreaded..."liquid surprise".

hope this helps

I use a Sewer Solution... hoses are about 12 years old and still going strong! Longevity of the stinky slinky is going to depend on the quality and how much UV exposure and use it has gotten. Once it feels brittle or starts to show signs of aging I would consider replacement. I have seen some super el cheapo versions fail the first time out. The Rhino is a decent hose for the money and should last quite a while if taken care of.

Don't forget to check the little ear tabs on the sewer hose connecter. I had one of these break off just after I pulled the black tank valve, and trust me...it's a really bad deal.

I've had the same Rhino hose for years...approx 7 and it still looks good. I have a backup hose, also Rhino, that I needed once due to distance from camper to sewer connection. I don't recall which one is original and which was backup. I guess it doesn't matter. My hoses rarely see the light of day, much less uv.
It's usually just the wife and I, and I only drag the hose out to dump, then rinse and connect the ends together and back in storage box. I don't leave the hose laying out. To easy for kids, dogs, or me to trip over it or step on it. Quality hoses are not cheap.

I have a Rhino Flex we purchased in 2009 and no issues. If it starts to lean any poo water that will be a good indication it is time for replacement

Two years ago I would have said RhinoFlex is the only way to go. That was before we got our Lippert WasteMaster. So many features that make this superior: outside rib support & smooth interior hose make for NO clogs or TP jams; the hose material is very thick - probably 2-3X that of a Rhinoflex; the heavy duty nozzle with sure grip rubber grommet & clear tube +on/off lever. Oh, and the cam-lock connector; never have to worry about a bayonet connection loosening up (or the hose separating from the bayonet connector!)

Best.Sewer.Hose.Period.

(Full disclosure: Yes, I won the $150 system in a essay competition, but it does not change my opinion of the product--proof: I sold our 5er and of course the WasteMaster went with it. I will be buying a new WasteMaster for our MoHo!)

I'm with Aron-I'Ve used a Sewer Solution on every hardside trailer we've had in the last 17 years. I carry a slinky for "emergencies" and I have never used it. I also don't need any holders, supports, gutters, ski slopes, pigs or adapters. I do carry 3 pieces of 1" PVC in my bumper for those odd locations where we are too far from the sewer opening. It's the smarter way to dump!

What is the advantage of this gizmo? Size? Doesn't the sewer dump faster thru a 4" hose? I learn something everyday.

It requires a water input to help macerate the waste/tissue going through it so you can get by with the supplied hose (much smaller than slinky).

The advantages are that the hose does not have corrugations inside, the setup can be used to pump uphill, and you can use this over long distances with tubing/PVC.

Could I pump it thru a water hose out into the wood? Or a nearby stream or lake?

I agree completely,..... three yrs., three trailers, never used slinky,......at home nearest I can get to my septic tank clean out is 40' and it's 2' higher than were my tanks are sitting on the trailer, Sewer Solution handles that with no problem and without the need for electricity for a little electric pump,....Sewer Solution, "try it, you might like it"......................
