sewer treatment options

which is better? Liquid or pods? Any one ever put sewer treatment in while docked also, or only after dumping? Ever use Flush King to clean out tank? I have no odor, I know my tank is dumped, yet sensor still reads 2/3 full. I'm not worried about it but it is annoying...

More then likely you have scum built up on the sides of the tank causing the sensors to read wrong. I corrected this problem in my class A by treating the tank with a heavy duty tank cleaner and letting it set full of tank cleaner for 72 hours before dumping and flushing.

We do a combination of nothing (mostly) and the Geo method.

We also have stopped using the indicator lights.

X3 on the Geo Method. We're on our 5th camper and never had a problem using it.

RV Digest-it
Rid-X for RV
Pods
Calgon
Commando pods

whatever I think of......at the time. Some of all of it sometimes. Rid-x and Digest-it seem to work best, but I use 'em all at times.

As to sensors.......have been home for a couple of weeks. Dumped FULLY last stop before home. Yesterday the black sensor said FULL, four out of four. I held it down for 30 seconds, and ONE light slowly went out. So I'm 3/4. I stay at 3/4. 75%. Sort of like life.

It's a holding tank, not a septic system. So most of the fancy chemicals don't have time to break anything down anyway, so why waste your $$$?

We have used about every product/method out there at one time or another. What works best for us? Water, lots of water. We will occasionally use an odor control like Odorlos during the summer.

When the tank sensors give me problems (about once a year) I will dump some oxyclean in a partially full tank and drive to our next destination and then use the Flush King to backflush the tanks several times. Amazing what comes out

Good luck!

I use Happy Camper RV treatment if I am going to be somewhere more than a weekend. Like others said it isn’t going to break anything down in a short time period.

Intersting read on this geo method. Any one have issues with putting bleach into tje black water tank? Bleach and urine can create ammonia gas.(had that problem on a boat holding tank)

I believe that it is doggie urine that can do that. So don’t let woofie use the head.

Love the geo-method! I use the liquid Calgon and liquid tide (febreeze scent or something). No issues with sensors and when you flush even with the fantastic fan running on high no bad odors come up from the tank.

We tend to use a formaldeyhde liquid or pod treatment because some campgrounds require it. In fact, some campgrounds tell you not to dump untreated water.

I assume that the pods are dissolving because if unless we keep the package closed, they will start to stick together just from the water in the air.

Nothing wrong with the geo method that I can find. We're just lazy and the premix is easier.
